Hi guys!
This documentary Why Beauty Matters by Roger Scruton has been the highlight of my week. It’s full of thought-provoking quotes! But, it’s got me thinking about the ambiguity of art, the meaning of culture, and . Also, the form of beauty.
Is beauty in the eye of the beholder? I think not. I don’t think beauty is in our eyes. I think beauty is seen with the eyes but it is found in the craftsmanship of God.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
If the Bible doesn’t then maybe this documentary will inspire you to look at whatever is true, noble, right, pure, and lovely. (Phil 4:8)
I love that we are to look at whatever is true first, because there are certainly untrue things that steal our gaze. Deception can alter what we deem lovely, pure, even noble and right. How easy is it for us to look to the world and accept ugly and deceptive in place of what is actually beautiful? Often we find allure and intrigue in the depths of our own minds, the status of wealth, and the makings of fame.
Don’t be fooled. We could make a long list of what beauty is not but it’s much easier to say that what is good and lovely always comes from above. What is beautiful worships God and in doing so, gives us a microscopic glimpse of His glory.
How do you define beauty?
To a Friday full of Flourish! May the inspiration strike,

Flourishing Friday post #5, last week’s here. These posts are about reflection, creativity, and inspiration. Occasionally, I will share my own expressions through art here and on my new Instagram profile @Mama_Equis.
I will be taking some time off because I have a training course to complete, see y’all in July!
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Proverbs 31:30
3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
I Peter 3:3 – 4
A peaceful soul who can appreciate God in every aspect of His artistic and creative ways has true beauty.
Being in appreciation and with acceptance for fellow humankind and honoring the world through the Creator’s eyes is beautiful.
Finding the best in something or someone is beauty.
Physical beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder.

This has got to be one of the most thought-provoking documentaries on beauty and art that I’ve ever seen! There were so many good thoughts and although as I started watching it I was like, “Woah that’s long!” In the end I realized that I really appreciated the time he took into establishing his points! And the fact that I barely wanted to sit through his video proved his point! We are a culture who hates waiting for things worth waiting for! We want functionality without bothering to acknowledge the importance of beauty. Once I grasped that idea, my whole outlook on design and art shifted! It was as if I had noticed something was off, but never had the words to express what it was! Thanks so much for sharing I really enjoyed this!
