Why You are Free to be Free (pt. 2)

Speaking about sin tends to put people, especially unbelievers, on defense. That tension is not dignified proof of your innocence. It’s the enemy’s way of keeping you distant from God, read Part 1.

How can we ever get close to God if we are sinning? If we are always going to be sinners?

Well, I think that the while all sin is sin, the nature of our sin drastically changes as we seek God and seek to be more like Him. The enemy’s stronghold over our lives weakens with each step of faith we take but that does not mean he won’t come up with new tricks to get us.

Believing that you are too far-gone is one of his most popular tricks!

Romans 5:8
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

We don’t need to perform X amount of rituals, confess X amount of times, do X amount of good deeds to get His attention.

Galatians 2:16
^“know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.”

God really is a simple, loving Father. He wants us to have faith in Him, to find comfort in His hands, and to ask Him to join us for a walk along this little thing we call life.

Essentially, all we need to do is talk to Him, accept His gift and then unwrap it. This means when He speaks to your heart, you respond to that little tug. You say, “Yes, I hear You God, I believe you.”

He wants you to confide in Him, “Lord, I know that I am sinner and have done wrong against you.”

Take His gift, “God, I am sorry for the things that I have done. I believe that Jesus came down to earth to take away the burden of my sins. I want You in my life, and I ask for your forgiveness. Give me the courage to turn my life around so that I may have Your favor.”

Forgiveness is God’s greatest gift to man–it’s so great that it even came in the shape of a man! That lovely Jesus.

Our job is so simple, yet not easy, because Jesus took on the hardest task any man could ever take on. Okay granted, He was God incarnate. But let’s think about that for a moment. I’ve been in and out of the church for the entirety of my life and I never understood the gravity of God’s Sacrifice to His beloved people until this year.

I would say facing the consequences of my own sin has finally straightened my posture. See, I get emotional during praise, I pray to God everyday, I try to humble myself before others because I FINALLY understand what Jesus did for me. He never wanted me to live in sin because He never wanted me to suffer and He never wanted me to feel abandoned.

1 John 4:10
 ^“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

He literally suffered and was abandoned so that just by professing our faith in Him, we could be cleansed of our sins. God sent God, as the Son, to be born in a human body by way of the most humble circumstances. I mean, Jesus was born next to animals because his parents were fleeing persecution.

Jesus was sent as God in the flesh to make a loving point to all of us. He was given the same corporeal body that we occupy, poor living conditions that plague us in one way or another, and was active in the community. None of the trials and tribulations that cause us to sin, neither the flesh nor the human mind, nor the temptation, nor the anger ever lead Him to sin. Jesus was (and is) perfect because He is God. At the hands of many sinners, Jesus was crucified, his garments were gambled on, and they gave Him vinegar when He thirsted.

Yet, with all His glory, He still took our sins and rose again!

1 Peter 2:22
“He committed no sin,
    and no deceit was found in his mouth.”

1 John 3:5
“But you know that He appeared so that He might take away our sins. And in Him is no sin.”

We, as humans, could never match up to His grace. We have every excuse in the book as to why we cannot do right and why we fail but Jesus came here and did not fail even though he experienced the same world we experience. As humans, we will always battle against sin. As God, He will always forgive us because that is the nature of His perfection.

Fortunately, God knew that we are weak and we need Him. It was the ultimate sacrifice to bear the weight of our sins just because We. Could. Never. We cannot reach God from earth, so He came here to reach and save us.

John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

One of our pastors recently taught a sermon titled “The Gospel,” and he used this verse.

He said that John 3:16 is the verse that sums up the entire bible. Hm, it does show
God’s motive: loved the world
His doing: gave his Son to take our sins
His call to action: believe in Him and receive life.

HUMBLING!

God’s love is so big that it wipes us free from our bondage. He did it out of His own mercy for us. All we need to do is accept! Profess it with our mouths and with a true heart, turn over to Him.

1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
